RIP 700R4 - You Served Me Well

It finally happened.. I was going to go to the track friday and the car club bash sunday, but the tranny let go friday afternoon.

I had never tried letting it shift into 3rd on it's own, and the first time i tried was the last time... There went 3rd and 4th gear.

Tranny is almost out (those 2 bolts on the front are a BITCH) and hopefully will be in before the weekend is over.

Totally stock tranny lived 130K+ .. it had a ROUGH life

I know how that is.. I'm on my 3rd 700r4- in a v6, yet! It's obviously not getting "too much power", it's just not being rebuilt corrrectly.

What are your plans for your trans? Are you rebuilding it yourself, buying one, upgrading one, etc?

I had to rebuild my trans at only 70K! I wonder how hard the previous owners pounded this thing? ANywayz I upgraded my trans. Put in high performance clutches and everything. Only paid about 110 bucks!

Shane,
Well, with a blown HONKER in front of that poor little old 700R4.....uh, it's a good thing trannys don't usually grenade, they just stop shifting.

So, are you going with a garage rebuild,JET,Art Carr, or what?

Does the 800 work on the blower okay?

There is a local guy that is known for rebuilding these things. He works out of his garage and did all my cousins tranny's..

He also did my friends 700r4. My friend runs high 12's in a 4500lb truck with slicks and nitrous and a 468 BB.

Due to my current financial situation i'm going to have to try this guy, although i really wanted a pro-built.

i do have the continental non lockup converter with anti balooning plates that will be going in.

The 800 was doing GREAT. After losing the tranny i let my friend with the truck borrow it since his 850 was acting up. Yesterday I watched his engine catch on fire. Luckily we have a fire extinguisher in our house (we're roommates) and were able to put it out.

I think the carb is ok.

Shane
