Usually a whine is because of gear misalignment,if it just started doing it i'd have it checked out. Make sure the pinion bearing and carrier bearings are good. Limited-Slip additives are usesd mostly to eliminate chatter in the diff. clutches.

What kind of ring and pinion did you use in your rebuild? Because most High Performance aftermarket gear sets are built with strength and longevity in mind and not quietness of operation........

the gm additive works very well, better than most aftermarket additives. it's a friction enhancer for the clutchs so they don't chatter. it cost me little over 5 dollars a bottle, cost you a little more.
