What do yas think?
I have 87 Camaro 305, automatic with overdrive,
what trans do i have and
heres the problem:
Sometimes, not all the time, when i put it in reverse or 1 it will make a humming sound, but not all the time. Then when im driving when the car shifts into second its not really smooth, third is fine and so on
when i come to stop i sometimes i hear a banging sound in the back when its downshifting. its not loud but i can hear it. Other times when the car is pretty warm, if i hit the gas to hard the trans sometimes makes a grinding sound (kinda like when u shift with a manual and it doesnt go into gear all the way). transmission fluid levels are good
what could this be?
and also how much u think a new trans with overdrive would cost to have done?

The trans is a 700-r4, it sounds like the pump is dying in it, and then you probably have some debris in there causing other problems.
A rebuild can cost anywhere from el cheapo 500 to upwards of 2000, I paid 1200 to have mine done with good parts and a slightly higher stall converter and its been no problems at all.

check your tranny mount. there are 3 rubber mounts along the crossmember that prevent the transmission for torquing up when you put a load on it. that grinding and banging sounds you hear could possibly be the drive shaft rubbing on your floorpan.
