Does any know of a good trans place in the burbs of chicago?
My dad is looking for a BOP TH400 for his 69 GTO. This car is a driver so he wants trans that can handle a heathly 455 and a 355 rear gear. But he doens't want the neck breaking shifts (old fart). He is trying to stay away from TCI and such, he wants more of a home brewed trans. Any ideas?

I recommend that the "Old Fart" get a copy of Ron Session's Turbo 400 manual and rebuild it himself if he has the time and
a little mechanical aptitude. Ron's book
has a lot of pictures and is written for the
novice rebuilder.

Get a TransGo Reprogramming Kit but stay on the conservative side as to hole sizes. They give you two sets of gaskets just in case you want to go bigger.
I agree with transfixleo on this, just make sure he is using the sprag style direct drum (1965-1971) then you will be able to use the Borg-Warner 34 element intermediate sprag. If not locate a used one if possible, otherwise Aceomatic Recon sells one. Talk to your parts supplier on this. If this is to much trouble, call me and I can get you all the HD parts you need to rebuild this right & the 34 element sprag (along with tech tips).
