Pinion...

Problem, cant get the pinion out of the carrier. Got the nut off, but the u-joint is still there. Also, this coming out of a 10 bolt posi 3.42. I have a 10 bolt 2.73, I cant use the same pinion, can I? Thank you!

Re-use the same pinion? Thats not really a good question..How in the hell did you get the pinion nut off with the u joint still in place?! I think you might mean the pinion yolk? just use a hammer to tap it off if thats what you mean.

Kent-Moore makes a special puller to pull it off, and when a few hammer taps won't knock it off, I use the puller, since hitting it too hard endangers the parts. But they can be very tough to get off, on the other hand, sometimes they come right off.

Get the yoke off first. Once that's off the pinion should come out with a few hits with the hammer.

Maybe you get a good discount, but they wanted over $800 for their pinion depth setting gauge! Unreal! So I got a Precision Measurement Sys one instead for ~$125. Kent-Moore what a joke, quality stuff but bend over prices.
