transfixleo HELP!!!!!!!!
I just installed a rebuilt 700R-4 in my '83 Z28 with a B&m Transpak, the part throttle downshift eliminator valve, and a TCC lockup switch. The problem that I'm having is that I don't have fourth gear. I'm not sure if it has anything to do with the Transpak or not. I called B&M and the told me to check line pressure. I did, and it was between 55-60 psi in all gears at 1000 rpm. It did increase when the rpm was increased. What can you tell me? I have done everything that I can think of, so any help will be very appreciated. Thanks!
PS I never tried the tranny after the rebuild without the Transpak. As soon as I got the tranny, I took out the valve body and installed the Transpak.

With that low of pressure you may have found the problem. I am surprised though since I thought the B&M came with a new Pressure Regulator spring. If it did and you have this pressure then either the pump is worn out and you are not building enough volume at low speeds or there is a misassembly problem.
I would try this first: Without driving the car, disconnect the TV Cable (this will only work if you left out the large checkball near the TV mechanism) and start the engine and put it in O/D. Now make note of the pressures as you slowely raise the RPM. If at, let's say, 2000 RPM you have 68-70 PSI in O/D then you are dealing with a worn out pump. If you did NOT change the PR sping and it's an '83, 60 is it. You can probably go to a local tranny shop and ask for a pink PR spring from a later (@'88 up) model 700. It will give you 75 PSI at idle.
My best recommendation would be to scrap the B&M and get TransGo but try this for now.

Thanks for the info. I found out yesterday, after talking to some techs, that the tranny is a late '87 model. He had me pull the valve body and rechech the check ***** and, sure enough, one ball was missing. The Tanspak said to leave it out, and he said to leave it in. The ball is in. I'm in the process of reassembly right know(waiting for the silicon to dry on the gasket). I'll let you know what happens. Next time, it will be TransGo all the way.
