whiny trans

I have an 84 Firebird S/E with a Borg - Warner 5 speed manual transmission, and the thing whines like a little bitch, especially at high rpm's. Does anyone know how to quiet a trans down without spending tons of $$$$$, and WITHOUT dumping sawdust into the transmission fluid?

My friend's brother had a problem with a high whining noise coming from his rear end. If your car is shaking at high speeds along with that whine, the rear end is going bad.

Just a remote possibility of what it may be. My 88' Camaro just got a new rear end last week, cuz' it was shaking and whining horribly. Having no problems now, and it was a major performance upgrade (disc brakes/posi-traction/level 2 sway bar/better gears).
