Transmission Dying?

Hello, im new to the board and have a question. I have a 86 Iroc 305 w/automatic.

Recently i found that i have a small leak in the pan seal. (This after noticing a slight buring smell for a week or so, but only above 3000 rpm) The fluid had gotten low and i refilled it.

Recently (last two days or so, before i refilled the fluid and still after) its being jerky in low rpms of all the gears, but drives fine when at 2k or above, in any of the gears.

Example: shifts into OD around 50 mph and drops down to around 1400-1500 rpm. As i accel to 55 mph (and obviously higher rpm)
the tach will sorta bounce like 30-50 rpms while making upward progress. Its also something that is 'feelable' as the car jerks.

Only happens on accel, driving in low rpms dosent cause any problems.

Im wondering what it could be and if its something that can be fixed/replaced without costing me A LOT of money. (alot being like say $500+)

Or does this sound like a possible fuel system issue/other component failure.

Im gonna have the trans looked over out when i get the pan resealed.

Hook up a vacuum gauge and drive it. When the problem occurs, look at the gauge. If it stays smooth it is a tranny problem. If it bounces with the 'jerk' it is an engine problem.
