TV cable adjustment problems...
This is on a 92 TPI formula. The way I learned to adjust the cable (how B&M instructions w/ shiftkit said to) was to push in the square button and have someone in the car push the pedal to the floor. I've done it several times this way on my 91 camaro and it has always worked right. But when I tried it on the firebird, it set the cable all the way out, to the "I'm not gonna shift out of first" position. The plastic sleeve moved toward the front of the car and there was no click/ratcheting noise. It's been a while since I adjusted the cable on the camaro, but if I remember correctly, moving the cable toward the firewall raised the shift points. I must remember wrong because with the firebird the shift point goes up when I move the cable toward the front of the car. Anyway, I finally got it close by trial and error, but WTF? Have I remembered how to do this completely wrong, or is the cable somehow screwed up? I also tried it the way the tech article said to do it: by pushing the button, moving the cable all the way back, releasing the button, and then WOT. When I did this the cable didn't move at all, and the shift point was WAY too low, and slipping. So what's the deal here? Am I retarded, or is it the car?

It's not you, it's the instructions. To adjust the TV Cable skip the book method and do this: Press the D button on the adjuster and loosen the cable setting. Now, have someone floor the gas pedal while you check to see if the throttle plate is open all the way. Usually they are off a little and will wiggle. Do whatever you have to do to get it open solid. Now, with the pedal still floored, press the D button and pull the cable casing (the black tube) back as hard as you can and release the button. You now have the engine, tranny and gas pedal all in sync at WOT. Mark the cable so if for some reason it gets moved you can know where to put it again. The problem with the 'self adjust method' is that it bends things and puts them permanently out of whack. It is also the full TV setting, which is theoretically what the GM method does.
