sick 700r4, need help from those in "the know"
ok, i'll go through the whole thing as detailed as I can. I have a 1987 700r4, very recently rebuilt by a friend of mine. I also at the time did a trans go shift kit, the reprogram kit, full manual setup. I added on a 2500 stall converter, and a vette servo. I did the directions to the "T" onto how to do the shift kit, bolted the whole thing together, and it didn't act right from day one.
First off, it wasn't full manual as i expected. If you put the car in OD, it would shift through the gears, 1-2-3-4, although the shift points were extremely early. Another thing which was odd, but may have also been an out of adjustment megashifter was that when in 1, i was in first, 2 was still in first, 3 was in second, and 4 was in fourth! the only way i could get in 3 at all was by going in fourth from a dead stop, and letting it shift there on it's own. But that very well could just be the megashifter adjustment.
Anyway, I put about 100 miles on the trans, with nothing but the above quirks, and a shake/vibration between 55 and 70 mph, which is 99% likely a driveshaft vibration, my y-pipe resonating against my subframe connectors, or some combination of the two. After about 100, i was cruising in 4 on the highway, and all of a sudden, i was in neutral... I pulled over, and when i pulled out again, all i had was 1st gear, and it would be in first gear no matter what forward gear the shifter was in. neutral and reverse still worked tho.
After this happened, i checked over everything i could. The fluid looked and smelled fine, no leaks, and it wasn't the shifter cable or anything external. Something is up internally on the trans.
So, any ideas on where i should start to fix this thing?
I'm gonna go over as much obvious stuff as i can, and pray it's something stupid. But beyond that, should i throw in the towel, and take it to a shop, or should i cut my losses on the transgo kit completely, which i possibly messed up somewhere along the way, and get the TCI full manual VB?
or any other suggestions?
I don't want to sink too much more money into this trans, because I've had nothing but **** luck with 700r4's in general over the years, and if this one is unsalvagable after only 100miles, i'm going manual!

Look, obviously there was something done wrong since day one, not the kit but done wrong, and it wasn't corrected. Go back to step one and retrace everything in the instructions as if someone else worked on it-in other words don't skip anything because you know it is OK. You will find it and fix it with this method if it isn't too late. Pay particular attention to the linkage adjustment too.

i will do so...i'm not going to assume i did anything right...it was the first time i attempted a shift kit, so it's very possible i messed it up
Don't be too hard on yourself. That is the one area that I think the TransGo kits need improvements (the instructions). They are developped by and for proffessionals and when they tried to make them user friendly, well, that is probably why they came up with the videos which is a good idea. I do this day in and day out and I still find myself reading and rereading their instructions to get it right. I also have yet to meet anybody who doesn't make a mistake in fact I am probably at the head of the pack on that!
