Is there a pilot bearing for the 2.8 with 5 speed? My T5 keeps eating pilot bushings and I want to replace it with a bearing. Does anybody make one?

 

You sure the input shaft bearing on the trans isn't in need of replacement?

 

Yea, I've got the input shaft out right now and that bearing is fine. I've had about 6 or 7 of these transmissions in there and this isn't the only one that has worn out the pilot bushing. I've got a roller bearing in my '69 Camaro and it's worked well for many years. I've heard that there might be a bearing for the 2.8, but haven't seen one.

 

Sounds like an alignment issue; bellhousing/trans vs crankshaft. I've had better luck with the brass/bronze bushings myself; never been able to make those little needle bearings hold up.

 

I agree with Shagwell. When I had a t-56 in my car I used two pilot bearings which both failed. Ended up breaking my Mcleod street disc. Never had issues with the good old bronze bushings.

 

I'm going to replace the input shaft on the transmission. It's pitted and wearing the bushing. I don't know why people take these transmissions out and then leave them out in the weather. I've got enough parts to put several T5 transmissions together, but they all need input shafts. They are all rusted where the pilot is.
