I've got one, but I'm not making a huge amount of power. I'm pretty confidant it'll survive anything I'm likely to give it in a streetable application.

You need to check out the American Sedan race cars. This is at the top of the list for rearends for those guys. Either a 9" or a Dana is what most of those guys run. I don't think it's "bullet proof" like the 9" is but I think it's pretty good. A-sedan is road racing. They're not launching, but they're putting a lot of torque trough it repeatedly in a severe stress application.

Many of us with modded Vettes use the Dana 44.

Thanks for the replies guys. hey mojo what kind of times do you run with that vette? My buddy has an 84 and has been hitting low tens with the dana 44 and only broke the spider gears but I was curious to what the kind of times the f-bods were getting out of them. I will be putting one in my car very soon, I'm sick of breaking the ring gear on the old 7.5" pos.

My 7.5" 10 bolt is still surviving but it's not considered stock. What are you doing wrong?

Good luck on finding a third gen dana 44 but if you do get a good deal, grab it. You may end up paying the same price as for a 9".

Dunno what I am doin wrong but the car is in the 10's and every time I go up to the line I'm praying not to be getting a tow ride home.

Also I have a dana 44 that I got for $700 with extra set of gears just have to set my car up for disc brakes now.

I was curious to see how far people have pushed them thats all because everybody around here immediately goes to a 12bolt or 9".

You just happened to one of the lucky ones to find a Dana44 for a third gen. The main reason everyone goes for a 9" or 12 bolt is the easy availability of them.

If someone produced a Dana60 for a third gen there would be more of them in "very" fast third gens also.
