87' trans into a 91Z questions........

I just pulled a 700R-4 out of a 87 camaro I have 2 questions.
1. How would I convert the cable driven speedo to the VSS style
2. It was in a camaro with a carburated 305 with 71K miles. My car and mods are listed below. How long would you guys expect it to hold on??

------------------
91 Z28 5.7l Camaro
T-56,McLeod Street Clutch, Cross Drilled Brakes, KYB's,AFPR, 3.73 Gears, Borla Adjustable Cat Back, Hypertech Chip, Hooker Headers.
more to come....

You will have to take the tail housing off and replace the plasic speedo gear with the metal one from the later tranny. Use the pickup sensor too.

transfixleo knows his $h!t. He helped me with the exact same problem. I'm putting an 87 into a 92 car. Does the tail housing have a gasket that needs to be bought, or will black RTV do the trick?

Your '92 probably has the electronic sensor. If so just replace the speed with the sensor and put the reluctor on in place of the plastic gear on the shaft. There is an O-ring readily available at any tranny shop for maybe a buck. If you do have a speedo gear still check the count on the tranny gear and if it is different then change over to the original and reause the driven gear. If it is the same then you are all set on that.
