700r4 issues
Im not going to make it a long story so here goes. I was stopped at a light, when it turned green I mashed the gas, it shifted from 1st all the way to third, then I let off. I came to the next light and heard a high pitched wine coming from either the converter or trans. I had to rev it up somewhere between 2500 and 3000rpm before it would move the vehicle, and it wouldnt shift from 1st. I pulled over, checked the fluid and it was full and not burned. I drove it about 2 miles back home like this and then rechecked the fluid which was still full and red as can be. I have pulled the trans, drained the converter which is full of shavings. The fluid from the trans is still perfect with no noticable shavings, dirt or debri in it.
So my question is, does it seem like the converter or trans? Maybe the pump?

Re: 700r4 issues
Did the transmission still have reverse? With metal in the torque converter, you will be going into the transmission. Tear it down and see what happened. You will need a torque converter, and with metal in the transmission cooling lines it will be about impossible to get all of the metal out. Flush the lines as best possible, and then use a large spin on/off type filter in line (it will be the top line) going back to the transmission. This will get any any of the metal out of the lubrication circuit. Let me know what you find out? Dana

Reverse is the same as the rest, wont move until ~2500-3000 rpm's. That's why I was kinda thinking its the converter. I have drained every bit of fluid I could get from the trans, through a filter into my drain pan, I also removed the valve body, and I didn't see any shavings. I need to replace the cooler lines anyway, and I will add the filter just to make sure there is nothing in the cooler. I paid $1200 for this trans and another $300 for the converter, but they are both just out of warranty (go figure).

It may be wise to take a second look at how strong the engine is that you bolt the tranny to. Some early 700R4's didn't last long when used for towing and if you have an engine built to be a world beater then it may quit working again.

Re: 700r4 issues
The engine is a 305 with ported 416 heads and a summit 1102 cam, so its not a big horse motor.
