700r4 compatability
I am looking at buying a used 700r4 from a 1984 camaro to put into my 91 just wondering if it is a simple swap. and if there is any reason why not to buy it other than its used.

Depends. Is your 91 an auto or manual. If its an auto simple swap but why. is your current one missing/shot. Your 91 came with a 700 so other than that if yours is good no since in buying it. I think the 84 is a metric trans to, so if nothing is wrong with yours let it be or do a 6speed swap. haha

Re: 700r4 compatability
It would be a straight swap I assume ... but - in late 1987 they beefed up the internals on the 700R4, so anything older will be slightly weaker ... UNLESS this older unit has been rebuilt with the newer stronger internals.

Re: 700r4 compatability
See if the car has the LG4 or L69 motor. IF it does snag the rear end to, its a 3.42. and just double checked myself, an 84 is the first year of the 700R so my suggestion again, if there is nothign wrong with the one in your 91 stick with it.
