ohhh so thats why you dont use chinese bearings....

So in in our quest to get a GM car to win the 24 hours of lemons we found the rear end bearings were in sad shape after last years New England race. No problem Ebay to the rescue right.. Somethings are better left to pictures, the 100 dollar rebuild kit that includes carrier and pinion bearings as well as the squash collar and shims results in fragged parts and destroyed races after 300 laps.

Now we replaced the Torsen unit with an open carrier that i by chance grabbed from the shop before we left and put it together with USED timken bearings and a used squash collar. That open carrier was checked for gear mesh with white spray paint bolted together and with a prayer sent back on the track. The car finished the race with it installed with no other problems.

For the record... who says you cant use a truck WC T5 in a firebird.. your not gonna like the shifter location but on a budget it works...

The firebird will be back to Lemons after a rear end swap and some brake changes. but guys do yourself a favor and learn from my mistake, just buy the damn timken bearings and be done with it.
