Something busted in tranny.Need help.

Took off from a light, tires spun for a good 25-30 feet before they seemed to stop spinning all of a sudden. That's when the tranny fluid started spinning out from the tranny. I looked at the fluid pattern on the ground and it was a series of horizontal lines, like the fluid was been spun out of the tranny from the converter or something, instead of just dripping or pouring out. I started the car at the house and that is the only time the fluid spins out, with the engine running. So I pulled the tranny and looked at the converter;seems fine. Is it possible it is coming from the pump? Is there a diaphragm in the pump it could be coming from only while the engine is running/idling? I'd like to know if it is just the pump,or something I could replace myself.I'm pretty mechanically inclined, but haven't messed too much with trannies,so any help would be appreciated.

Was the front seal pushed out from the pump?

I don't know, being as I don't know what it should look like in the 1st place.I've swapped out a few trannies before, but never got any deeper than that.My brother has his tranny out of his 89. I'll look at his tonight and compare.

I just had a friend of mine take a quick look at it and he said the converter looks good and the seal looks good.It has a seal retainer holding in the seal. He suggested trying a new seal anyway.Anyone else have any ideas? I hate going thru the hassle of taking the tranny in and out.
