help... advice on torque converter installation
Hi... I've got a Fairbanks torque converter that I'm about to bolt up, but I have a few questions...
1. Everyone talks about "3 clicks", but I'm out there by myself, this things heavy... I got it on, and spun it both ways until I got it seated... it is moving the pump, because fluid comes out of the tranny line, and with the bell housing back up and mated, there is a gap of about 1/4 inch between the converter and flywheel... never heard three distinct clicks, whatever the hell that means... does this sound ok?
2. Is the only thing holding tranny oil in check that small o-ring at the end of the input shaft to the tranny that I slipped the converter onto to.... I'm asking cause I didnt replace it, the car has 25,000 miles is all, but it's an 87 and I'm worried the ring may just be old, you know?
Advice pls

sounds like you have it installed ok and the seal on the front pump is all the keeps the fluid from leaking past the converter.

You'll know if it's on there all the way, cause if it's not, the bell housing won't mate up with the motor. I crushed my front pump and cracked my bell housing trying to force one in there that wasn't seated properly. If it doesn't fit right, CHECK IT!
I finished it up... thanks for the advice. I found that when I had it on, there was still a small 1/4" gap between the back of the converter and the flywheel, that's what I was concerned aobut most. But I spun it on the shaft, and it pumped tranny fluid, so I knew the pump was hooked up to it... I never did hear the "three clicks" everyone talks about, but then it was heavy, I was by myself, and I just slid it up best I could. HA! Seems to work ok, and I've been to the strip with 5 runs on it now.

I never heard any clicks, either, when I put my TC on. The most important thing is that you have the clearance between the flywheel and TC, when the engine and trans bellhousing are touching.
