Transmission shift point.
Transmission shift point.
Hello. I first just want to thank everyone on this web page for your help in the past. And I've run up on another problem, and thirdgen is my first place to look. I have a 91' Z28. I recently removed a nitrous plate off the car, and reset the transmission cable on the TB. But the car is shifting way to quickly....it bogs down if I'm just cruising, and it has a shift kit, so it will normally shift hard. But now it shifts as though it does'nt have a shift kit. But when I floor it, u can feel the shift kit when I shift at higher RPMS like 5500. But other than that, it feels all weak when I'm not on it. I've reset the cable a number of times. Please let me know if there are any ways of narowing my error down....Any help would be greatly appreciated....

It's gotta be the TV cable adjustment since that's the only factor pertaining to the tranny that would change by taking off the NOS plate. Try playing with the adjustment some more, like moving the cable foreward toward the front of the car.

The plate changes the geometry of the throttle in relation to the cable bracket. You'll have to figure out some way of modifying the bracket to correct it.
IF you have the original Throttle Body you should (?) have the correct geomtry. When the cable pulls it should travel @1.3". For adjustment do this: To adjust the TV Cable skip the book method and do this: Press the D button on the adjuster and loosen the cable setting. Now, have someone floor the gas pedal while you check to see if the throttle plate is open all the way. Usually they are off a little and will wiggle. Do whatever you have to do to get it open solid. Now, with the pedal still floored, press the D button and pull the cable casing (the black tube) back as hard as you can and release the button. You now have the engine, tranny and gas pedal all in sync at WOT. Mark the cable so if for some reason it gets moved you can know where to put it again. The problem with the 'self adjust method' is that it bends things and puts them permanently out of whack. It is also the full TV setting, which is theoretically what the GM method does.
