also if any one knows about rear ends....i plan on dropping a 383 in my 91rs(2.73) and tricking it out with all the best mods. i plan on getting 350+HP or maybe even 400+HP. Which is the best, cheapest!, way to make my rear take all those horses?

With the car solidly on four stands or a lift, with the tranny in Man2 push in on the Servo cover and see if it now 'shifts'. If so it is some sort of control problem or a WAY out of adjustment band. If it doesn't then you may have broken the band. That Servo is overkill. I don't use it on anything.

The lower the number of the rear end gear ratio the stronger the ring & pinion. The pinion has less teeth and the teeth are thicker, therefore stronger. How many 2.56's, 2.77's, 3.08's, etc. have you seen break? Check the pinion to ring gear clearence, and change it if necessary, and run a hi-quality rear end oil. Torco, Amsoil, etc., NOT Sta-Lube. If you have a posi, make sure you run the additive that is recommended for what you have.

Yes, push on the cover while it is in Man2 but first make sure you have it solidly on stands/lift. Next, have someone inside to A) keep the tranny speed up to @20 (so it will be aproximate speed for 2nd gear) and when you push on the cover, if it does make it shift the other person will B) see it on the speedo and you will likely hear it too and see the driveshaft/wheels speed up accordingly.

Is it possible that the anchor pin that's under the valve body came loose? Since he possibly had the servo and the VB out at the same time, I see how that could've happened!

Yes, usually it is pretty solid in there but it could have happened.

I asked him if he found any spare parts after the shift kit install (i.e. anchor pin) and he said no. I'm wondering if the big *** servo didn't eat his band for lunch. I have seen them punch the apply pin through the pin seat (remember Millicans?) and I have also seen them bust out the back of the anchor bung.

Very good point. That is why I try to steer people away from the overkill stuff.
