Going from Neutral to Drive Damage?

i was curious if this does any damage to my transmission, in the '76 firebird when i'm on the freeway and i hit a downhill section i like to flip it in neutral (it's a Th-350 tranny) and coast to save on gas, does it hurt the tranny at all that i'm shifting from neutral to drive at about 70-75 mph??

Poor man's overdrive.....LOL

It is find to do, won't hurt any parts in the tranny. Just don't overshoot and hit reverse.

reading my old manuals for th 350 and th 400 tranny its says not to put the car in neutral while it is rolling, if GM says not to do it, then i wouldn't beside what gas would you be saving? mabey a 1/32 of a gallon per tankfull?

i think i'd save a lot more then that with a TH350 and 3.73s in the rear, freeway mileage eats me alive since i do a lot and its lots of ups and downs

For mileage with deep gears and no overdrive especially with a carb--Try holding the throttle steady up and down the hills. The accelerator pump squirts raw fuel right into the engine everytime you hit the throttle. A steady right foot is what you need.

------------------
350 with stealth intake, holley carb, 470 lift cam. 700r4 with .5 boost valve, vette servo, tci lock-up kit, B&M megashifter. Richmond 3.73 gears, powertrax locker, timkin bearings, synthetic lube. Custom 3 inch single into 2 2.5 pipes. 1 1/2 drop springs, 1 5/16 solid front sway bar, 1 inch rear bar, custom subframe connectors, custom LCA relocation brackets. Kobel ground FX, currant red metallic paint. Lots of other stuff...
