Ragtop, I did a t56 swap this past winter. It's a moderate amount of trouble. You need some fab skills and a good amount of mechanical ability. Was it worth the trouble and expense? #$%^&@ YES. I love my 6 gear. Dean

Ragtop, I spent
$1200.00 trans, flywheel, clutch, hydraulics
$42 third gen pedal set
$27 console shifter plate
$20 resurface flywheel
$69 new clutch master cyl.
$40 new slave cyl.
$127 clucth disc, pressure plate , TO bearing
$320 speedometer cable conversion
grand total $1845.
Worth evert cent too.
Maybe could have used the old hydraulics and clutch, but didnt want to take a chance.
I made my crossmember and did all of the work, so I saved that money. Dean

Re: T-56 swap advice plz
I spent a little more than Dean did, but I'm the one that did the speedometer conversion on his trans and many others here and I had to pay for special tooling and material for fixtures to be able to do the conversions. So that is included in my total cost. I also went with premium parts all the way through the trans. Brass shift fork pads for all forks, the heavy duty "long" tail shaft bushing, spohn cross member for my torque arm, the whole nine yards. Was well worth it for me.
I think I ended up with about $2200 in everything when all was said and done. Took about 3 days to do, but I did it right the first time. Took the car for a ride and it was perfect. And a year later all I've done is change the fluid in the trans a couple of times to get the metal particles out of the trans that are always there when new gears are installed and they seat into each other.
I wish I'd done this many years ago. I have 3.73's and I just loaf along at 70 on the freeway. And no worries now of breaking the little T5 anymore.
