need help with rear end

Axle/Gears: 9 bolt 3.45
need help with rear end

I have an 89 camaro with a 350 that i put in. i have a posi rear with stock 2.73 gears in it now i was wondering can i just upgrade my gears to 3.42 or what i should do i can't get a 12 bolt or 9" right now cant afford it and i want to start driving this before i leave, all help would be great thanks

You can get a special thick 3.42 that will fit the 2 series differential that you have now. They are slightly more expensive than the standard 3.42, but saves you the money of getting a 3 series differential. You will also need a good installation kit and the knowledge of how to set it up correctly.

thanks now would it just be easier to get a 4th gen rear with the 3.42 gears and swap them out? thanks again

It would be easier, but you might have some tire clearance issues. The 4th gen rear end is wider.

I dont think that will be a problem i have corvette rims and right now i have the 2 in adapters and i would need those for the rear with a 4th gen right? i just dont know about how far they will stick out they have 275/40/17 on them

You should be able to leave the spacers off with the 4th gen rear end. That might work out just right for you.
