auto tranny shifting early...why?

my car has an lg4 and 700r4. if i get on it hard from a stop, it will stay in first gear until 4500 rpm, then it shifts. however, it will only stay in 2nd gear until about 3700-3800 rpm, then it shifts to third, even if i have the pedal to the floor. why does it do this? i've had the car for 2 years, and it's just started to do it the past few months. also, when i first got it, up to like 55mph, if i put the pedal to the floor, it would drop down to 2nd gear. now it won't downshift to 2nd when i'm doing over 45mph. i'm assuming this is the same problem, but what is it? would a b&m megashifter solve my problem?

Adjust the TV cable as per transfixleo. It has been posted several times on this board. This should solve the problem, if not you would want to install the Trans-Go Shift kit or the Performance Shift kit to remedy this and other inherent problems in the 700R4. On second thought, I would do this anyway as I am sure you would like the results.
