Definitely looking at Trans-Go shift kit, but
had a ? about a kit that you can manual shift? I don't know ... just looking around. My car will shift fine while cruising around, actually, seems like it's shifting a bit early, but when i get on it, it won't shift until 7000RPM if I just stomp on it. I find myself letting off on the gas so it'll shift. That's not good. If I can control the shift myself, that would rock. Will the Trans-Go fix this kind of problem or should I look elsewhere?
the transgo kit with the stick shift option will allow you to do this. You must make every shift, and it will allow you to start in other gears at a stop (not a good idea), its on my list of thinsg to do. Other choice is to use a govenor sping and weight kit to lower your shift points..this will retain the auto function.

If you install the TransGo "stick shift" option, thats it. It will be a clutchless manual. I don't think its a great idea for a daily driven street car. You must MANUALLY make every shift. If you come to a stop, you must put it down into 1, then kick up to 2, then 3 and so forth. If you simply put it in 3rd "D", you will take off in 3rd gear. It may be fun at first, but I'm sure it gets old fast. Just may want to consider that.

Sounds like you need to adjust govenor/tv to get your shift points right, or use a Trans-go recalibration kit. I agree that the full manual would get old!
i dont get these people who say a full manual would get old. Ive owned mostly stick cars before and they never got "old" i was forced into the damn auto by circumstance, and putting a stick in it isnt feasible. I've also invested to much time and money on restoration to sell it for a stick car.

Honestly, I can't put a finger on exactly what it is, but I just don't like it. I have driven many stick cars, and I currently have a 5-speed firebird, and I absolutely LOVE rowing through the gears, but when I manually shift my Trans Am equipped w/ the automatic trans, it just seems annoying after awhile. Its just not the same as having a manual tranny IMHO.

I looked at pro-built.net and they don't list a manual kit. I don't drive the car that much so it wouldn't matter. I can understand GMTech tho. I think I may just leave it automatic if I can get the damn thing to shift right. If not, nothing better than controlling the damn thing yourself, you know? hehe
Who else sells Trans-Go shift kits?

Thanks!
Is that the Heavy Duty kit? I'm also looking at just getting the .500 main and .296 intermediate & corvette servo components for $40 something. Would this be fine or would you recommend just getting the kit? Could I get the .500 main in the Heavy Duty kit or would I have to order the street/strip kit?

The Street/Strip kit with the .500 main boost valve, .296 intermediate boost valve, & Corvette servo are what you need to the job you want. The cost on this kit is $124.27 as of the moment.
You will want to recalibrate the Governor. I doubt if it really gets to 7000 RPM. If it does then you have some other "issues" to deal with along with it!
The full manual operation of an auto unit is nothing like a standard because you cannot slip the clutch. Trust me, I have driven this setup and it gets old in about one day. Also, if you forget and take off in 3rd or 4th it's time for a rebuild. Do you really want to risk that?
