clutch advice! (please)
clutch advice! (please)
I'm getting a new clutch for my 89 trans am, manual, 305. The clutch was going out when I got the car so I have no idea what I'm in for when I get the new clutch except that it's gonna be allot more exciting to drive (this is my first v-8)! I have been researching clutches to find one that best fits my needs, everything is stock, and the engine isn't huge, I want something thats good for traffic, parking etc... And something that will grab, hold and react fast! Anyone have any wisdom to throw my way?

I really liked the centerforce dual friction clutch when I had a T5. It held up well to the abuse I put it through.

My dual friction Centerforce clutch has held up great for a few years now (although I don't drive much) and can take some abuse.
You may wanna consider dishing out a few more bucks on a performance clutch. You'll be glad you did if you decide to add some hp down the road.

I do intend to drive the heck out of my car once she's all fixed up! The centerforce dual friction is at the top of my list. Of course I have big plans to add tons of hp, alas as I am a newbie and on a budget, this wont happen for quite some time, I need to research, drive, read, work etc before this happens. I am committed to the best I can afford for my car so I am not concerned about money for a clutch (replacing the differential, and transmission so I can throw in some type of beastly motor is a different story). My question about a "performance" clutch is this; as an inexperienced driver living in a city (I get out on the open road as often as possible), how will a performance clutch affect my driving? is it overkill? and is the centerforce dual friction on the low end of performance? I am asking because I have talked to some dudes who say that a performance clutch is sweet for response and power but, parallel parking is miserable... Also what about brands like Hayes, Zoom, and Borg Warner?

I used a Zoom clutch kit from Jegs. It's cheap and is good for stock applications. Pt# MU56-1 Here are the links :
