I currently running a transmission cooler and it is front of the radiator and it is getting plenty or air through the grill. I also have transmission lines going through the radiator then to the cooler and back to the transmission. the transmission still hits 180 degrees on the freeway sometimes 200. on the street it gets close to 210. would it be better to run the transmission line to the cooler only and ditch the radiator or what? By the way i am running a 9.5 convertor too.

 

Trans temp of 175 to 200 is considered normal, 225 to 250 sustained temp will shorten the life span, if you change anything get a larger cooler or maybe add a fan. Do you have a/c yet? If not use the a/c condensor as a cooler, large capacity and it fits in place perfectly and it is free all you have to do is clean it and install different fittings which can be done with compression fitting or irf you have braided line use hard tube adaptors.

 

if you keep it under 150/175 it will last forever.. like above go with a Bigger cooler.. and the temp sending unit. is it in the pan? or inline.


you want your tranny oil to always be Cherry red..just like it's just been put in.. if it starts to go even a bit dark.. get it out..and get it cooler..

the life of the oil is Temp.. the cooler the better.. todays rock stock cars will run in the 220 temp... Hot rods should be in the 150 to 175.. for longer life.. it's better to be cool then Hot..

 

The temp sending unit is in the line. I do have ac but never use considering pulling it since I do have an ac delete pulley. My cooler is now 4inch wide and 10inches tall. Pretty decent size.

 

my z28 with the mods would run 120 to 140.. at the track it would go 150.
and thats after 3 or 4 runs back to back..
