SCORE!

Hey guys i dont post in the drivetrain section a whole lot but figured id throw this one out there. I just scored a 4th gen rear end and center console on my local craigslist. Just drove 1hr and half both ways to get it.

The details...Both from a 02 Camaro SS(ls1/t56) with 20,xxx on the clock when it was wrecked.

The rear end was complete and has the brakes and lines all with it. It needs new rotors and pads but thats no biggy. I will need to get new parking brake cables and i think i noticed in an old thread that EBmiller has some for this exact application(price anyone? or his site). Anyway it has the disk brakes and a 3.42 posi in it. Now does anyone know what kind of posi came in those yrs? Does it have the clutch style or not? Which is better?

Also i grabbed the center console which was all complete.

Price i paid for everything=$180! Idk why he gave it up so cheap but he gave me all that for $180, he was pretty young tho and didnt seem like he knew what he was giving up. Oh well his loss my gain. He told me he wanted 200 for the rear and said i could have the console for free. I told him "will you take 180 cash" and he said ya sure. lol. Its a good score if I may say so myself.

Only problem with the whole deal is the console is out of a 6 speed and right now i have an auto(dont know if ill ever change to a manual but we will see what package i end up with when i go the ls1 route). When i was cleaning it up with meguires interior stuff and gettin all the nokes and crannies i notice that the whole(shifter plate) assembly comes out. So im thinking that the manual and auto ones were only different in that asspect. So i plan to buy an auto shifter plate and keep the manual one for a later date or just sell it...idk yet.

Ill post some pictures of it all if you guys want to see it all. Ill come back to this thread in the future when i actually get around to installing it and all that.

Let me know what you guys think...

Re: SCORE!

It's a good deal. Should have offered like $1000 for the LS1 & T56 while he was in a generous mood!

Thats a steal should have seen what else he had laying around. It's either a zexel torsen or an auburn if it is a SS pull the diff cover to be sure.

Re: SCORE!

Lol ya i thought it was a good deal. And sry for the stupid question but im not really up on my whole rear end stuff. I know about gears and stuff but dont know what kind of rear means what lol. Is a torssen good? I figured its out of a 02 ss with the ls1 in it; it had to be good lol. I did hear something about different yrs haveing posi's that had a clutch type of design that were more prone to wear out but were better on the street. Is this true?

HAHA about the motor thing. I did ask...he was keeping the motor and trans, thats all he wanted from the car he was going to junk the rest i guess. He wanted the motor for a 74 nova he was building. I saw the 02 ss out back and asked if i could look at it. He said sure. I wanted to take the whole dash and all that but the airbags went off in the wreck and it was all spider cracked and ripped and stuff so I passed on that. The center console is really nice tho. Like i said the car only had 20,xxx miles on it when it wrecked.

I DID ask if i could buy the driveshaft tho. I didnt know if they put aluminum ones on an 02 or not tho. Id prefer and aluminum one due to weight savings. Either way he said he didnt have it anymore.

Oh well...now i just need to find the money to buy new springs and shocks as mine are all orginial and it rides like crap. I really want to do a full suspension but cant afford that so i need to steps at a time. If i keep scoring deals like this I might have a nice car like alot of you guys do in no time! Ive been on a streak of selling things for good profit and buying things for dirt cheap. Hopefully this continues for some time as i really need help in this economy, the job really has me on a tight budget.

Either way if anyone is in the rochester area I can give you his number and you can get any parts you may need lol....let me know...he is going to scrap the car pretty soon I think...
