tranny slips going uphill @ 2750 rpm onto 3250 then engages

My tranny slips going uphill and accelerating @ 2750 rpm onto 3250 then engages. It is puzzling because the symptom is NOT there on highway speeds which tells me the occurence is happening on the lower gear shift (2 to 3?). TV cable is fine and the fluid is clean and odorless. Is this the beginning of the end?

Any ideas? Thanks in advance...
