well i was driving along in 5th, i down shifted to 4th and it felt strange so down shifted into 3rd and it got stuck there.

i was told that maybe it was a synchro that busted loose and got jammed in there. so i am going to take my consul apart so i can take a better look at the trany.

but i want to start looking for a new transmission too. the trany has to come out if i rebuild the one i have or if replace it so im thinking of replacing it.

so finally to my question what is the stock 5 speed manual trany from a 84 camaro v8 and is there any other transmissions that will bolt into place without modifying other things. or was the same transmission used in other cars.

also will a stock transmission work with a 350 that i may swap in later.

 

You have a non world class T5, the 88 to 92 T5s are world class and handle more power and are better built. That is what you need.

is there a tranny that will bolt up to a 305 and a 350 that will handle the power from a built 350

 

Well, i had this T5 behind a 350, but the trans that is rated to handle real power is the T56 6 speed from a94-97 Z28/SS or TA/Formula. Those are what i have now and they are great having a deep rear gear and a 6th gear in the trans.
