Divetrain behind a built 350 Vortec
Hi All!
I've got an 89 Firebid with a 305 TBI, 700R4 trans, and a 2.73 rear.
Just picked up a 97 Vortec 350 for $200 (horray!) to drop in.
After delusions of grandeur revolving around 400+hp, I decided that it would be more realistic to shoot for about 300 HP at the rear wheels, with a 3.42 rear end gearing.
Can the stock drivetrain handle that okay?
Anything I should do to the trans while the engine is out?
It will be a daily driver, no racing. I'm a 35 year old Middle School teacher. I just want the car to have enough power for the occasional dramatic pass or red-light launch.
After 20 years of fixing old cars because I have to, it's great to be fixing one because I WANT to!
Thanks!
