took apart my LS1 posi carrier, took some pics

I couldn't find much info and disassembly, couldn't find anyone that had, even found one guy that said it couldn't be done. Since this came out of my rear that blew up, I wasn't gonna reused it unless I could take it apart to clean it out and inspect all the worm gears for damage. So I really had nothing to loose.

I didn't take many pics but this is right after removing the 4 bolts holding the end of the case on and popping it off. It doesn't just pop off by hand, I had to insert a 1/4" drive extension butted up against part of one of the two "sun gears" and have my brother lightly tap on it over and over while moving the extension 360 degrees around the gear to help the end of the case come out straight. I do like the design of it though. No springs or clutches to break or wear out.

I'm not certain about others, but when I tipped mine over a little, both sun gears and all 8 worm gears just started to slide out. Not like in the pic though, that was only on reassembly. When you take it apart though, make sure you know which sun gear goes in first or last, one has a right hand twist, the other has a left hand twist. Same goes for the worm gears too, 4 RH, 4 LH. Since there was no damage whatsoever, and suprisingly, no ring gear debris, I finally managed to get it back together after about and hour of trial and error. Was a bit tricky and won't lie, took several smoke breaks, lol. Pretty much, feels like there was about 50 ways that you could try and put it back together, but only one would work and go back together.

Since the thread was brought back from the dead this is the Zexel/torsen rear I assume? How well do these hold up? They are not a standard limited slip I see.

They are Torsen diffs. They don't really wear out and require no additive. I've yet to see one actually *break*. Probably possible but They are crazy strong. No spider gears to fail either. This is the same as the Eaton TrueTrac.
