Yes its true. The V6 T5 has a different spline count on the input shaft than the V8 T5.

Re: T5 question
Run from it like your pants are on fire. If anything find an 88+ world class. I run a non-WC behind my 350 and it's held up well, but I don't rod the car either.

Re: T5 question
input shaft is different but thats it.
If you know how to drive a regular T5 can last.
You can find guys with built 400s drag racing on a regular T5 with no problems and you can find guy with bone stock 305s that can trash a T5 daily.
speed shifting is the first no no
30in wide meats & 5k rpm drops are a no no too.
But get a WC if you can find one.

Re: T5 question
Also the V6 T5 has a really low 1st gear that the V8 models dont have. I'm using a T5 from a 4.3 powered S10 in my Trans Am. It has a lower 1st gear but I don't know if its as low as the V6 F-body unit. My TA used to be an automatic so it has 2.73 gears, the lower 1st gear works well with the 2.73 gear.

Re: T5 question
the spline count difference is really a moot point as a correct 10.5in sized and 14 splined disc is availible from mcloed to mate the v6 trans to a v8 pp/fw, i had one for a while it worked nice, but the low 1st gear and my 3.73 made it a ***** to drive at times, i later found a v8 trans with better 1st and overdrive ratios.
i also just used the dinky 9 inch v6 disc inside the v8 size pressureplate/flywheel... not for long enough to know durability tho
