I got a 1991 camaro z28 with a 700r4 transmission and having problems.

When I bought the car several years back the tranny would hesitate to shift. But now my problem is this:
-the reverse works fine
-when i put it in 1,2,d, or od i have nothing
-as I am in any of the gears above and give the car gas(about 2500 rpm) it will finally kick into gear. I'm not able to take it out to drive to see if when it is in gear if there is any problems.(we are getting freezing rain right now).
-after it is finally in gear and i put it back in park then try putting it in any gear again, I have to give it gas again before anything happens
So if anybody can help me that would be great

 

I would guess the forward clutches are burnt up. the car jumping into gear after it revs to 2500 is it trying to shift to 2nd gear since there is no 1st to start in. The band applies To shift from 1st to 2nd. But with burnt forward clutches the car would slip after the band apply. I would say it needs rebuilt.
