An 87 should be a 26-spline, IIRC. Check the 10-bolt FAQ at the top. Of course the only way to be completely, totally, 100% sure is to pull the axle though.

Providing it's a 10 bolt, it will have 26 spline. If it's a 9 bolt, it will be 28 spline but then the 9 bolt is also a completely different type of diff.
