Is this a bad idea?

Hey guys, well I love driving my 91 trans am, I think its a blast. However my biggest complaint is that if I floor it with the car doing about 25-30 mph, the transmission simply won't kick down to 1st and a pull out of 2nd at that speed feels very lethargic... almost kinda pathetic. However I noticed that while driving at that speed, if I put the gear selector into 1st, it'll kick down and accelerate pretty quickly when I floor it. I doubt that doing this too often is good, but is doing it at all bad? BTW my car has the LB9 engine (305 TPI) with the 700r4 transmission.

At WOT your car should be shifting from 1-2 at about 30 MPH with the engine in RPM Yellow. You can't expect the tranny to "abuse itself" by downshifting from 2nd to 1st while at 25-30MPH...... And it's a good thing it's not allowed or there would be a LOT more dead automatic trannys out there !!

Better to leave the tranny alone and abuse it manually if so desired !

Really? It feels like the car could do so much better if it shifted a little later, like at 5 grand rather than 4500 rpm.
