T56 Aluminum Flywheel?
I've been wondering...
I've talked to one of my friend about Another friend what he did to his 84 Z28. He put in a T56 transmission and also a Fidanza Aluminum Flywheel and a good clutch.
But the friend I was talking to mensioned another friend said the one who put the Fidanza Aluminum Flywheel in his 84 Z28 is going to have problems down the road because it's made of aluminum.
and tonight me and my friend were going through summit catalogs and read the aluminum flywheel was made for road racing and light race cars.
Anyway, Where I'm trying to get at is, I got a T56 in my 91 RS, and I want to replace the Flywheel and clutch I have currently in my car (stock 96 Z28 transmission parts) with a heavier clutch and a Fidanza aluminum flywheel, but would I have problems with the flywheel breaking or have any troubles with it?
This is a dumb question, but I figure it was best to ask before going off assuming it was safe buying one and wasting the money if I do however some how break one.

The alum won't "break", it just revs up fast and doesn't hold the revs up with the momentum. In stop/go street driving, you have to constantly feather the throttle and clutch to keep the revs up and getting going from a stop.
I have an aluminum FW in my car and it really sucks on the street.. It's very nice on the track, but having to rev the motor at every stop is very annoying. (I also burned up a $400 set of discs in only 3K miles)
My next FW will be steel.

Re: T56 Aluminum Flywheel?
I remembering you mentioning that before
That helps alot, and I probably wouldn't like how touchy it'd be. (killing the car and having to start it back up grabs too much attention. haha)
But I guess, it'd be a less of a headache if I didn't go put one in my car (as how your explaining it sounds like that's all it really is.)
So thank you for the info, 85MikeTPI
My plan I got going for my car is to be all low end torque. right now Im working on getting subframe connectors and all new parts for my 10 bolt rear end, then work my self towards on rebuilding the transmission.
BTW I am still looking at getting those parts for my T56 as you told me about, I haven't got around them.
got a new truck during the summer so Im doing payments for that, but I do however expect getting the parts before I head off to college next year. and plan to rebuild it my self.

I have one question though, when you mean disks, you mean clutch disks? (Pretty sure that's what you mean, but I don't like assuming.)
