Whats this seal/gasket called?

OK,
Here's the update on Evil Black Betty. I have dropped the Tranny, removed the Flywheel, and replaced the rear main seal. While I had the fly wheel off I notice a spot that was leaking oil pretty bad and may be the culprit of my oil leak. The seal or gasket was shot and needs to be replaced. The problem is I don't know what it is called. It's right above he rear main seal. Is this the camshaft? I have included a pic. Thanks for your help.
P.S. Dropping the tranny is a pain in the butt and knuckles.

Man that looks like the back of the cam itself! Can you have somebody bar the engine over by hand while you watch and see if it turns? It almost looks like a seal or cap bolted on the three holes to cover up the end of the cam.

Yes, it is the back of the camshaft. I was needing to know what I use to seal the cover with. Either a gasket or a seal or RTV silacone.

GM has a 'fix-kit' for that seal. I don't remember what it was called or such. But it was a better cover and gasket assembly. It has been mentioned several times on the V6 board, so a search there may turn up more info on it.

Could also take a copy of the picture you posted to the parts guy.

The other area that leaks is the distributor. About 1/2 inch below the mounting flange is an O-ring. They dry out and crack, then start leaking a lot of oil.

RBob.

I've never worked on a V6 so I don't know exactly how they are set up. But it looks to me like you are totally missing a three bolt cover with a gasket or O ring or something. I can't believe that they would just let the end of the cam hang out there like that. A cam will "walk" around a little and I don't think the end of the cam itself is a good place for just a seal around the circumference.

I don't know what this might be called, maybe a rear cam cover/seal or something?

Rear camshaft cover... what engine do you have? 6 or 8?

It's number 9, depending on what engine you got, this might be what you need..
