corvette independent rear?

ok so ive searched a couple hours and i guess im just gonna have to ask,
is it possible to swap an independent rear from say a c4 corvette into these cars?
obviously it wouldnt bolt in since theres no rear A arms or anything, but i saw a rear end on craigslist and figured, why the heck not?
has anyone EVER done this?
would you be able to modify the suspension enough to put rear a arms or whatever under it, or would it pretty much take a wholly modified frame?

btw, i am going to laugh my *** off if this launches a whole trend of aftermarket ind. rears for third gens.

Re: corvette independent rear?

I have seen a third gen from Canada that put a C4 IRS in it. It wasnt too difficult according to him. If you do this, dont get a Dana 36, as you will change it quick as they are very weak, very weak. The Dana 44 is the way to go for this project.

and yes, i do plan on keeping this car for pretty much my whole life. ill just keep pouring money into it as i get bored haha.

Re: corvette independent rear?

One thing to remember, with an C4 IRS, it is not the best IRS out there. Its not Drag Race friendly, and unless you have coil overs, isnt all that great for road racing or autocrossing.
I have had my 93 for 14 years, I do both with it, and its something that needs to be researched well before going down that path, IMHO

ooooohh wow ok i dont know why i didnt think of looking in the suspension board.
good idea.

im not thinking of doing it anytime soon, just maybe considering it as a project much later in the future. ill be sure to think it over and research it quite well if/when i actually do it.

Re: corvette independent rear?

there was a thread in the fab board, but the op deleted everything because people kept nitpicking and it turned into a mess.

it can be done, its a LOT of work, a lot of cutting in the rear, wheel wells as well as the front of the wheels well for the control arm things. Then you have the pinion mount to deal with.
