Popping out of gear

I am having a problem with the shifter popping out of gear when the car is cold. It happens with every gear but 1st. When the car warms up it works fine.

I have a 91 firebird with 5.0 TBI L03 and T5 manual tranny. It is basically stock with 56k miles. The only thing I had changed was the shifter to a pro 5.0 I then switched back to my factory shifter about 6 months - 1 year ago. I only drive the car once every month or so. Problem didnt start until i switched back to the stock shifter. So, I was thinking it was a problem with the shifter, but why would it go away if the car warms up? I havent tried switching back to the pro 5.0 but thats what I might try.

Re: Popping out of gear

Manual transmissions pop out of gear when they don't fully engage the gear. Typically the causes are:
- Mis-adjusted shifter stops
- Worn/Broken shift fork pads
- Worn/Broken shifter offset lever cup
- Worn/Broken synchro keys

Re: Popping out of gear

OK thanks, I will try the shifter first, the pro5.0 has adjustable stops so if I switch to that and its fixed, ill know its the shifter.
