Car: 1992 Pontiac Firebird Base
Engine: 305 TBI
Transmission: 700r4, B&M shifter & shift kit inst
Axle/Gears: 3:23....10 bolt
TH400 or 700R4?

I know this sounds really stupid, but Im kinda still new to transmissions, and I want to know for sure whats in my 1992 Firebird 305 TBI Base. Is it a 400 or 700???

I would say 700R4... on your shifter do you have a circled "D"

You've never driven the car, right?

700R4 was the only Tranny that I believe 82-92 Birds used for fuel economy while hittin' the highway... the other trannys were used by 1st gen and 2nd gen birds..

yes i have driven the car for almost a year now, its just that i havent paid much attention to it lately, but now i got curious, and i heard somewhere i might have a TH400 so i wasnt sure as to what to think.

Unless the previous owner swapped tranny's... you will have a 700R4...

that isnt different, only differntial...when i changed my differential fluid last summer i noticed that the differential was from a junkyard clearly noticed by the markings on the hub. i also noticed this, when i went about 20 feet behind my car, you can see my tires being pushed out an extra few inches from where they originally were. but they only stick out like 2 inches at most.
