Need some quick help about a muncie
I really wanted a T56 in my car. However today I got offered a Muncie for nearly nothing. It has the trans, bellhousing, shifter, and clutch setup. My question is though, how strong are these transmissions? This one needs a 3-4 syncro but I want to make sure I'm not going to blow it apart.

Muncie's are strong but you'll most likely not use the bellhousing/clutch setup. I would pass on it and get a t56. plus I've had a four speed in my car at one time and hated it because of the revs on the highway.

now I see you have a 350 right now though so I guess it would be comparable to that on the highway. Its so much nicer to have more gears though. Just in the gas alone.

Yeah the overdrive is the main reason I was looking at the T56. Right now I just really want a stick. Is there a certain reason I shouldnt use the bellhousing? The only way I would use this trans is if I could use the bellhousing. I just checked a flywheel for it (I have a 1 piece RMS) and thats $345 so I'm already not sure about this.

Re: Need some quick help about a muncie
The bellhousing is probly for a mechanical clutch set up - like a z bar and rods. Thats if it's the bellhousing that originally goes with the muncie. Is it the bellhousing that originally came with the muncie? In our cars the best way to run a clutch/pedal set up is hydrolically. 82/83 had mechanical zbars and after that all third gens use a bellhousing that accepts the hydrolic stuff. So you would have to go through the trouble of finding all the mechanical linkage that was only made for two years and the specific pedals to use that bellhousing. And the mechanical stuff sucks. I switched to the hydrolic master cylinder and stuff in my car and its so much better. The bellhousings for hydrolic linkage are specific and have the correct mounting flange on them. that bellhousing wont, unless its a bellhousing out of a third gen or something else.
