Help picking converter...

I'm starting to buy all the parts for my project and now the stall converter has come up. I've been going back and forth between 3K and 3.5K stall for my 700R4.

This car is being built as a combination street/strip. I'm running a pretty wild cam which needs to idle around 1200, 3.42 rear and i'm guessing around 3100 lbs final weight.

Here is an old dyno when the engine was attached to a 5 speed, The torque curve is pretty flat and peaks around 4700.

Thanks for any suggestions.

How do you drive? Conservative? Moderate? Moderately aggressive? Or aggressive? Is that a daily driver or a weekend warrior?

On the street, i'd say moderate. It will get it's fair share of track time as well.

pretty much just a weekend car.

Thanks

Re: Help picking converter...

For that camshaft, go with a stall speed around 3500.

Re: Help picking converter...

I would go with a 3,200rpm stall, based on what you have stated. Whose torque converter have you considered?

It basically comes down to price, I'd like to buy one of the better ones but since i'm basically restoring the car as i'm doing the engine swap i may have to go with one of the cheaper ebay units.

I know GM made some higher stall units for the FWD trannies. the FA and FK versions were rated for around 2800 RPM on a 4cyl, those should stall around 3500 on a V6 easy. I have no idea if those would work on a 700R4 though.

Thanks
