That sounds like what just happened to my brothers truck. He broke the drum.

Re: please help!!!
Its inside the transmission. I dont know exactly how hard because I've never done one. But I do know the trans has to come apart.

Re: please help!!!
well since you're asking, it's something that you wouldn't be able to do the first time around... there are also special tools you need... the larger percentage of what it cost to rebuild a tranny is the labor cost of dropping the tranny... so if you're on a tight budget, perhaps one of your buddies can help you out and drop the tranny, a shop should be able to rebuild it for about 400-500 dollars, if you supply the parts... you could also maybe get lucky and get a good one from a junkyard...

Re: please help!!!

actually doesn't the cable control the pressure and the governor the shifts...
Re: please help!!!
The governor and the tv cable both kinda work in conjunction to control the shift points. When you're driving normally, the tv cable adjustment really affects the shift points because at part throttle, the line pressure inside the trans helps the valve body decide when to actuate a shift. So if the cable is adjusted wrong, the internal pressures are wrong, and the trans shifts at the wrong times. If your tv cable is set right, then the governor only takes complete control of the shift points when you're at full throttle and tv or line pressure is maxed out. That's when the springs/weights of the governor use centrifugal force and determine what rpm your shift occurs under full throttle. I'd say that's one of the advantages of the way the 4L60E is set up. You can read post after post on here of the headaches involved with proper tv cable adjustment on the 700r4. With a 4L60E the computer controls the shift points using solenoids in the valvebody to actuate the shift valves, so you never run the risk of misadjusting the tv cable and burning up the trans. If your car is bone stock, the tv cable isn't hard at all to adjust, but when you start playing around with aftermarket intakes and custom setups, it can be a real nightmare to get the damn thing set right!
I just went through this after putting the Accel Super Ram on my motor. But even on a stock motor, a shadetree mechanic or novice can easily misadjust the cable and burn up a perfectly good trans! The 4L60E has flaws too, but getting rid of the tv cable was definitely a good idea. I can post on this topic somewhat knowledgeably now because of all the crap I just recently went through with mine regarding both the tv cable and the governor. Needless to say I did a boatload of reading online and in my ATSG manual.

Re: please help!!!
ok so i pulled off the tranmisson pan today and nothing but fluid and a couple really tiny metal flakes were in it the car will not do anything in any gear. it will roll fowards and backwards in every gear but park. i don't have a clue as to what happened to make it randomly quit.

Re: please help!!!
Jack the rear up, put the rear on jackstands & see if the driveshaft moves. Chances are it won't, but it never hurts to narrow the problem down to the tranny or the axle.
Sucks to rebuild one & find out its the other.

Re: please help!!!
there will not always be a ton of debris in the pan with a break like that. if the converter stripped then there would be no way for the particles to flow into the pan.
