153 or 168
153 or 168
Need to get a new starter so might as well get a mini high torque starter. Wondering if there is a way to tell how many teeth on the flex plate without pulling the cover and counting. Searched and didnt find a definitive answer, If it matters it is a 89 Firebird with the original motor and a auto. Thanks in advance for the replies.

Re: 153 or 168
should be 153 but my mini starter needed a 168. stock Lt1 starters are mini's and work with 153's but arent considered high torque...but it started my 11 to 1 383 just fine 2 years ago

Re: 153 or 168
If you get a mini starter like the Powermaster I have, it works with 153 and 168 tooth flexplates. I have this one and love it.
