Currie 9 inch brakes?

I bought a currie 9in housing from a guy that had it in a firebird.Didn't have the money to buy his brake setup or 3rd member at the time.I just shatterd my 7.5 trying for 7.00 in the 1/8.Anyways,I called currie and they said that 98-02 explorer brakes would work but when I went to check this out,the cap bolt patterns weren't the same.Do the caliper brackets need to be redrilled or is there a certain rear I should be looking at?2 bolts line up and the other 2 are about 1/4in off.I really don't want to spend the money on the willwood setup and would like to get back to racing so any help would be appreciated.

Re: Currie 9 inch brakes?

There are many different types of housing ends. If the 9" was designed to fit into a third gen then it probably has a third gen backing plate bolt pattern unless it was custom ordered with different housing ends. You'll need to get exact measurements of the bolt holes then look through the option charts to see exactly which ends are on the diff.

Re: Currie 9 inch brakes?

When I purchased a Currie 9 inch, they had me send them my origional caliper brackets, and took care of all the machine work, to allow a bolt on to the 9 inch housing tubes.

Does not seem like you are willing to wait for shipping them out to Currie and waiting for a turn around, since you want to get racing again.

If you are, I would give them a call, because I believe they have sets of brackets all ready to go, and just need yours as a core.

Re: Currie 9 inch brakes?

I was trying to keep my brake cost down so I could spend more cash on an aluminum center.
My car is also drum so I don't have any brackets to send.

Sorry...I saw "caliper brackets" in your post. Maybe they can help anyway. They have this sort of question all the time, Im sure.

Re: Currie 9 inch brakes?

Any axle order form has the housing end specifications on them. If your diff does have the new style "large bearing" (Torino) housing ends then you can easily use Ford Explorer rear disk brakes. Use this chart to see what ends are on the diff.

http://www.moserengineering.com/mose...nk-2.15.10.pdf

If you don't need or want a parking brake, you can read the sticky I did at the top of the brake forum about putting disk brakes on any differential.

Re: Currie 9 inch brakes?

I might do exactly what you did,it looks easy enough and mine has 4 3/4 bolt pattern axles.Don't need parking brake either, mine is strictly drag.

Is there a certain explorer that works? I.E.....svt,lariat,v6,v8, or just any.

Re: Currie 9 inch brakes?

These rears can be ordered with many diff brake options so hard to saywith out seeing a pic or some measurements.

I ordered my moser housing for drum brakes and use late second gen (in fact 1978 trans am) backing plates (center hole ground out to fit over bearing) 78 trans am shoes,, and wheel cyl, alum brake drums
