new to the third gen camaros need some help
Hi and thanks off the bat i've already read a huge amount of info. Heres what i have its a 89 camaro RS. the motor is a 72 chevy 325 horse 350 with the throttle body heads intake and throttle body, then i have mid length headers and a comp. cams extreme energy cam. and a 700r trans. and hate it the motor seems to be nice and strong but the trans. lacks alot. seems sloppy between gears and doesn't shift firm enough for me. I've been told its in the "kick down cable"? no clue. heres my question, as i like a manual trans. and have read on here about switching to one, wondering what are my options on a trans. i can use. having a hard time finding one from behind a v8. there seems to be tons from behind v6, darn my luck. what all transmissions have u guys swapped in? thanks again. o and if u like pics i'll post some when i get home tonight.

the stock trans in the t5 or world class t5, the WC is a little stronger, but both will not last if you beat on them. they are the lightest though
after than, t10 4 speeds have been done but are a little tricky, t56 swaps from 4th gen car 93-97 are very commen and not that bad for price.
tko 5 speeds are nice too, but you wont find them used often, and will cost about 2500-3k for the trans and all the converison parts for the trans.
those are the common swaps.
there is a sticky at the top of the page for the t56 swap, and its pretty good, and if you go on the home page in teh tech section, there is an article for a t5 swap, and you need a t5 from a v8 car, the v6 can be made ot work, but its not worth the time

the 4th gen v6 trans is a 5 speed and wont work easily with a gen 1 v8. You need the t56 from a lt1 (v8 93-97) 4th gen

if you go t56 you cant go wrong. and yes your kick down cable must be installed with a 700r4. its called a tv cable (throttle valve) it hooks onto your throttle body and when you push the throttle it pulls that cable which tells the tranny when to shift. without it installed properly youll eat up your gears in the 700r4
