Shifting problems.

Hey yall. I just joined up cause im probly gonna be tryin to get my old camaro runnin again. Its been sittin for a while, and im finally tired of it not bein used. ha. Well anyhow.. I was gonna move it to some shade so I could work on it and not be sweatin to death in the sun, that was until I realized I would need the key to steer it when we moved it. Well before all of that I was tryin to get it to go into neutral and I couldnt get the button to depress... Do any of you know if I would need the key to change gears? Does the steering lock have anything to do with it? I might add that I dont have a battery in it right now, would that come into play with any of this? And if I do need the key, would there be any way to shift it into neutral without the key? Thanks for the help.

Re: Shifting problems.

Well thats the problem. I have no key. I live in Florida, and I lost my car keys, truck keys, all kinda keys when I was in Missouri visiting family. Go figure. But I was thinking about replacing the ignition switch and getting a new key. Does anyone know if the 87's had the vats on it? If it does ill just get a pot and figure out what resistor I need to put in it, really, thats just so I know if ill need it... Ill probly figure it out once I get in there, but itd be nice to know ahead of time.
