New/aftermarket T-5 vs T-56? and rear end/posi questions
So, I've been posting quite a few threads lately in regards to future upgrades for my Firebird. But hey, a base model 305 could use a few things!
I plan to swap in either an L98 or LT-1 as funds permit it. Unfortunately, as we all know the stock T-5's in third gens aren't exactly the best, I'll likely have to look into some kind of better trans to handle the power.
I really am debating between the idea of a new, stronger Tremtec T-5 (rated @ 525 ft/lbs TQ capacity), or to go w/a used T-56, which I still see go for like $1500 ($500 less than the brand new 5-speed). And correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe they were rated around 450 ft/lbs TQ?
Either one would handle my power goals, but the higher TQ rating seems to make that T-5 an attractive option in case I decide to add more power later down the road.
The other thing I'm wondering about is rear end stuff. Would it be worth it to find a disc, posi rear end out of another 3rd gen F-body to put ony my car? or should I look into a new/aftermarket one?
I'm shooting for 300-350 crank HP for reference. All help appreciated!
