OK I read on the 10 bolt rearend.I still don't get it.I've got a 86 with a 2.8 and a 90 with a 3.1.Should I have a 9 in the 86 and a 10 in the 90?

With the V6's, you will have the stock 10-bolt rears. Two different GM sources for the rear axle assemblies. Both have parts that are not compatible with each other. So the number of bolts on the housing cover was a quick way to identify them.
